Detailed information about the course
Design Science & Design Thinking
8th to 12th January, 2018
Prof. Yves Pigneur, UNIL
Prof. Jean-Henry Morin, UNIGE
The objective of this course is to offer PhD students in information systems (IS) and computer science (CS) the methodological foundation of design science research and design thinking. Combining theoretical (morning), hands-on (afternoon) sessions and one invited lecture, this course will provide PhD candidates with the required methodological foundation for their research. In particular the course will address design science from various viewpoints: frameworks, paradigms, theory, processes, patterns, evaluation, ideation and rationale. These design techniques will be used in creative ideation workshops, scientific literature reading and reviewing, writing research proposals and papers. The course is structured around two main aspects of design: - Design Science (Vaishnavi and Kuechler, 2008) as the methodological foundation of research in IS and CS - Design Thinking (Brown, 2008) as the creative foundation for innovation and design. This year, the activity will include a Professor from Yonsei University, South Korea, Prof. Kil-Soo Suh or a Professor from the Design Factory in Songdo campus of Yonsei, together with one or two PhD students.
