Organizer(s) | Prof. Laurent Donze, UNINE |
Speakers | Dr Stefan Hanenberg, Universität Duisburg-Essen |
Description | Increasingly computer science researchers are expected to carry out empirical studies to motivate their research, to validate it, or to form the core of the research itself. Unfortunately, most computer scientists obtain little training, if any, in how to carry out empirical studies. In this seminar, Dr Stefan Hanenberg will cover the basics of designing a sound empirical study. Themes covered will include: How to formulate research questions and hypotheses. How to gather and analyze data -and consider the special problems with human participants. Participants in the seminar will be invited to propose their own research topics for empirical studies for discussion and design exercises. |
